Child Abuse Prevention
2008 Child Abuse Prevention Month Pinwheel Campaign
|
Dear Partners in Prevention,
Governor Christine Gregoire proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Washington State. In her proclamation,
the Governor urged all citizens to help protect and nurture our children. The goal of this annual month-long
observance is to encourage individuals and organizations to join together in raising the public's awareness of
child abuse and its prevention.
The new pinwheel theme is a symbol being used statewide as organizations collaborate to raise awareness about Child
Abuse Prevention Month. Listed below are organizations that partner with WCPCAN to commemorate Child Abuse
Prevention Month.
If your organization is promoting Child Abuse Prevention Month - please let us know and we will add
your organization to the list!

Children's Memorial Day
On the fourth Friday in April, Children’s Memorial Day, the Children’s Memorial Flag is raised over the
state Capitol. This flag is part of a nationwide campaign sponsored by the Child Welfare League of America,
to memorialize the thousands of children who are killed every year and to promote the action needed to stop all
preventable deaths of children.

Prevention Awareness Calendar for Washington State
Safe behavior -- preventing harm to oneself, and preventing harm to vulnerable children and adults -- is
a team effort. It involves the many service delivery programs and partners of the Department of Social and
Health Services, other state agencies, local governments, communities, neighbors, families and extended families.
Being safe, and keeping vulnerable people safe, is everyone's job. The
Prevention Awareness Calendar
for Washington State is one of the resources that DSHS and its many partners are making available as a resource to you.
